| The written word has become the face of many business relationships, the
factor that most determines our effectiveness and authority. We send out
hundreds of emails a week, employees depend on our memorandums for marching
orders, few ideas are sold without a Power Point presentation, complex
concepts must increasingly be argued through perfectly crafted white papers
or op-eds, and markets move on the language of research reports. |
The problem is that crisp, engaging writing is not taught in business school and the
ability to produce it is lacking in much of the business world. Most executives are forced to rely on
whatever writing skills they learned in college as well as their hunches about what good writing should be,
which puts them at a severe disadvantage. A poorly framed email can make clients (and employees) perceive
us in a lesser light; a memorandum that does not get to the point or includes a groaning error can elicit
giggles; slide shows that are incoherent and too
long can be a ticket to a long stay in middle management, while other, more
practiced and language confident executives get promoted. Better Business
Through Writing seminars and editing services solve all this.
